Sat 20th November / 2nd Round Knockout Cup;
Combe Junior Sports 1 v 4 Deddington Sharks; Sharks moved on to the next round of the cup after a less than convincing win against Combe Junior Sports. Sharks kicked up the Combe slope in the first half and throughout the game we struggled to put any zip in our play. Passing was sloppy, we weren't marking up and when chances did come along, we just couldn't hit the target. The Combe keeper was on fine form, making a number of good saves, before Nick Dawkins broke the deadlock scoring just before half time. Five minutes after the re-start, Oliver Broughton scored goal number two. Combe continued to press and they were rewarded when a speculative long, high punt, saw the ball drop just under Matthew's crossbar and into the net - 1 v 2. Manager Dawkins started getting a little twitchy on the sidelines, when up stepped Nick Dawkins to score a cracker, dribbling round a couple of Comber players before coolly slotting the ball home. Dan Lydon finally settled the nerves, putting the game beyond doubt with goal number four.
3rd Round Knockout Cup 18th December, we are drawn at home v Ducklington.
Combe Junior Sports 1 v 10 Deddington Sharks; a goal-fest in the second game with goals from Dan x 2, Harry x 2, Tom L, a second hat-trick of the season for Tom Croxton and with everyone willing him to score, a goal from Alfie Barbeary just before the final whistle.
Next Up .......

Date: Sat 13th November 2010
Location: Fritwell School
Teams: Bicester Town Pumas v Deddington Sharks
Age Group: Under 10’s A League
Score: see below
Report:
Bicester Town Pumas 0 v 0 Deddington Sharks ; a fairly even game, with both sides failing to score and both goal keepers having very little to do. Sharks were slow to start, we tackled well and defended well, but when it came to controlling the ball and stringing a few passes together, we really struggled. Both sides had chances to score, but nobody wanted to put the ball in the back of the net.
2nd Game; Bicester Town Pumas 4 v Deddington Sharks 7; ok we struggled to score in the first game, but the floodgates opened in the second game. A much more open free flowing game saw Sharks take the lead through a Bicester own goal, Bicester then scored twice before half time. Second half saw Sharks take control with singles from both Dan Lydon and Nick Dawkins and four from Alfie Barbeary, one a good headed goal.
Next up......
Saturday 20th November / 2nd Round Knockout Cup (we had a bye in the 1st round) away to Combe Junior Sports (near Woodstock).

Date: Sat 6th November 2010
Location: Fritwell School
Teams: Deddington Sharks v Eynsham Youth
Age Group: Under 10’s A League
Score: see below
Report:
Deddington Sharks 3 v Eynsham Youth 1; Sharks got back to winning ways with a hard earned win against a spirited Eynsham side. Sharks went one up after 5 mins, when one of the Eynsham players smashed in an own goal trying to clear. Nick Dawkins extended the Sharks lead on 10 mins, firing in a fierce shot which was too hot to handle for the Eynsham keeper. Harry Gardner and James Churchill were solid in defence and Oliver "snapper" Broughton was in outstanding tackling form, continually breaking up Eynsham possession. Sharks were well in control and Alfie Barbeary scored goal number three before half time. Shark's continued to dominate and Eynsham's keeper made a number of fine saves to prevent any further goals going in. To their credit, Eynsham continued to battle away and they were finally rewarded for their efforts with a goal in the final minutes.
2nd Game Deddington Sharks 4 v 2; A good all-round performance which saw Tom Lewis scoring his first goal of the season, followed by singles from Jack Marshall Kay, George Rickard and....... in his final Sharks appearance, a single from Johnnie Hand - perfect!
Good luck to Johnnie at his new school.
Coffee, Cakes & B&Q - another stormer from Denise, Sue, Louise and Sally Ann - brilliant!
Next Game up....
Sat 13th November - away game v Bicester Town Pumas (Highfield), kick off confirmation later in the week.

Date: Sat 16th October 2010
Location: Fritwell School
Teams: Deddington Sharks v Tower Hill
Age Group: Under 10’s A League
Score: see below
Report:
After last week's great team performance v Cumnor, the wheels came off as Sharks put in a lack- lustre performance going down 2 v 3 to Tower Hill.
Tower Hill started brightly, although a Dan Lydon opener saw the Sharks take the lead on 9 mins. Sharks lacked their usual bite and stand in keeper James Churchill had to make some important saves to deny the Tower Hill strikers. Tower Hill scored on 15 mins to make it 1 v 1 at half time. Sharks went back in front just after the break, when Dan Lydon scored his second of the game. Tower Hill then equalised, heading in unmarked from a corner. Sharks couldn't get any "zip" in their game and with 5 mins to go, Tower Hill sealed their win, scoring again after hesitancy in the Sharks defence.
2nd Game - Sharks 1 v Tower Hill 2; similar performance to the first game, with our players struggling to get out of first gear. Jack Marshall Kay put the Sharks into the lead, but Tower Hill scored twice to seal the win.

Date: Sat 9th October 2010
Location: Fritwell School
Teams: Deddington Sharks v Cumnor Minors
Age Group: Under 10’s A League
Score: see below
Report:
Deddington Sharks 5 v Cumnor 2. An excellent game played in the right spirit by two good
footballing sides. Previously unbeaten Cumnor came up against a Sharks side in determined mood,
looking to get back to winning ways after last week's defeat to Brackley. Cumnor started brightly,
until powerhouse forward Alfie Barbeary switched on the turbo charge to score two goals in quick
succession. Cumnor then staged a come back, with Adam Megarity hitting the net twice to level at 2
v 2, before a well worked Dan Lydon goal gave the Sharks a slender first half lead. The second half
saw both teams play competitive end to end football with strong tackling and good passing. Cumnor
pressed hard for an equaliser, but Sharks won the game when "Birthday boy" Alfie Barbeary scored
again to complete a well deserved hat-trick, followed by another from Dan Lydon. A thoroughly
entertaining game, enjoyed by all.
2nd game Deddington Sharks 4 v Cumnor 2. Cumnor brought a large squad, so it was good to see a more balanced game between two evenly matched sides. An excellent team performance with some good passing and strong tackling performance from our players. Goals from George Rickard, Jack Marshall Kay and Matthew Chambers (having an enjoyable run out of goal) x 2, helped secure our first 2nd game victory of the season.
Next Saturday 16th October home game, Sharks v Tower Hill - kick off details mid week.

Sat 18th Sept / match report;
Middleton Cheney 1 v Sharks 2; what a game, what a glorious first win against Middleton Cheney! It's taken a while, but well worth the wait. Our Sharks were absolutely outstanding to a man (well boy actually) and every single player had to work their socks to grind out this magnificent win. As expected, Middleton Cheney played their usual free flowing, passing game (they are very good at it), but our Sharks played with spirit and commitment, tackling ferociously for every ball throughout the whole game. Sharks took the lead with a classical "route one" goal, starting from a great Nick Dawkins goal kick, with the ball bouncing perfectly for Alfie Barbeary to latch onto before thumping the ball into the net. Alfie scored again before half time with a trade mark shuffle & turn, before planting the ball in the net, fantastic stuff! The MC attackers continued to be a constant threat and our keeper Matthew Chambers made a couple of important saves. MC hit the woodwork (sorry plastic) and eventually scored one, although they were unable to level the score and Sharks ran out worthy winners. One of our best team performances yet, against very good opposition.
2nd Game we lost 6 v 0; it was tough for our guys, as most of the MC A Team were playing again, wanting revenge.! We huffed & puffed, but MC just had a little too much for us. That said, it was good to see that our players heads never went down and we battled to the end. We didn't lose many 2nd games last season, but the opposition has suddenly got a lot tougher, lots to work on at training.
Sat 25th September; no league fixture, so training session at Fritwell. We are having to go for an early morning start at 9.00am - 10.00am ish, as the Cobras have a league game at Fritwell for 10.30am kick off.
Next league fixture Sat 2nd Oct away v Brackley Town

Date: Sat 11th Sept 2010
Location: Fritwell School
Teams: Deddington Colts “Sharks” v Kingston Colts
Age Group: Under 10’s A League
Score: see below
Report:
Sat 11th Sept. Deddington Colts Sharks 1 v Kingston Colts 0. A great match to kick off the new season, saw managers and parents enthusing about committed performances from both teams. End to end, high tempo play with good passing and lots of goal scoring chances being created. Sam Weller was outstanding in the Kingston goal, making save after save to deny the Sharks attackers, easily the best goalkeeping performance seen at Fritwell. The deadlock was finally broken with 5 mins to go, Alfie Barbeary making an impact coming off the bench to drill home the only goal of the game. Kingston came close to equalising in the last few minutes of the game, Nick Dawkins deflecting a shot onto the post which goalkeeper Matthew Chambers just managed to hold onto, tense stuff for mums & dads!! 2nd game Deddington Sharks 1 v Kingston 2. Another good game which was fiercely contested. Sharks went ahead when George Rickard managed to fire home direct from a corner. Kingston drew level just before half time and despite lots of endeavour from our players, Kingston won the match with a second goal with 2 mins to go.
