BDLJ Division 1

FC Langford 2 - 4 Deddy Reserves

Our first win of the season!  A tough team, Langford started ominously well.  They broke through too easily and had several opportunities that on another day would find the net.  But it was Deddy who took the lead.  A great shot by Dave Hayward flew over the Langford keeper. But a shortwhile later Langford struck back to equalise. Too easy!!!  Then, even worse Langford scored again to lead 2-1.

Jordan Gamage equalised with another shot from distance that topped the keeper. Jordy was playing out of midfield, an unfamiliar position for him but one that worked.

Josh Kay added a third in the second half after some brilliant work from Luca Catania, playing on his debut.

The Gamaster machine added a fourth to secure the victory late in the second half after some brill possession from the Town.

Great result after our first three games!!

Fruit pastels man of the match - despite outstanding work by Alex Radini from the first minute , the whole team was awarded a double dose of fruit pastels and Haribo allstars for a remarkable team performance!!!

Team - Toddy, Barny, Jack Cummings, Charlie McKay, Gaz Smith, Joe Davies (Capt) , Jordan Gamage, Josh Kay, Dave Hayward, Craig Smith, Alex Radini, Pedro

Saturday 4th October 2014  ...ERIC MORRIS CUP 1st Round  ...

KingsSutton Reserves 1 - 4 Deddy Reserves

Remember we are the holders!!!!!

Of the team that won the Cup back in April this year, only a couple played today. Everyone else were either new to the team or had been unavailable to play in the final. Joe Davies (Capt) stepped into goal in the absence of Toddy.

Although the opposition sit in a lower league, a cup match is always a different proposition to a league game.

And so it proved...within the first 15 minutes, KS took the lead.  A cheap free kick in the Deddy half allowed KS to deliver a cross that Deddy just didn't defend. In fact no one attacked the ball and it passed right across the deddy goal before a yellow peril left his marker and scored a simple tap in at the back post. CRAP!!!

Deddy laboured for much of the half, struggling to make the passes count. Then a break...Matty Hatt was taken out in the penalty area and an opportunity to equalise came...and went!!   Ref, bless, him,, got whistle itis.....Matts first shot was saved, but the ref blew for the goalie moving too early.   Second chance Matt buried it, but ref blew again...no one knows why!!  Third attempt and Matty drilled high over the crossbar much to the KS relief.

A minute before half time, justice was served...a great cross by Josh Woodall (his first game in adult football) found Matty Hatt who buried it . Game on!!!

Second half started well with Deddy more determined and deliberate....the break came when Nani broke free and made certain with a great goal across the keeper into the lower right of the net.  He followed it up a short while later with another goal, this time from the penalty spot after Matty was take out again.

Jimmy Hunt provided the icing on the cake with a great header late on.

Good performance in the end from Deddy although never really clicked fluently.  Several key players out playing for the firsts, so a good opportunity for some new players to take to the stage.  And they all grabbed it well, noteably Josh Woodall, Luke Barton, and Pat Haynes who were making their debuts in the team.

Still the holders, a young team showing plenty of potential.

Fruit pastels man of the match - Joe Davies for a great stand in performance in goal!!

Team - Joe Davies (keeps), Charlie Bonner, Jack Cummings, Gaz Smith, Charlie McKay, Pat Haynes, Jimmy Hunt (1), Dave Hayward, Craig Charles, Matty Hatt (1), Nani (2), Josh Woodall, Luke Barton, Alex Radini.

BDLJ League

King Sutton Firsts v Deddy Reserves

A poignant and difficult day today in the wake of the terrible news of the death of Steve Hatt.  Steve signed on with the Club at the start of this season, having played for many years with various local teams.  His son Matty also signed on.  Steve sadly died suddenly on Thursday 9th October.  Matty was desperate to play today, as he knows it is what his father would have wanted him to do.

And so he did. Prior to the game a minutes silence was held in memory of Steve, and of Reg Morris who also died earlier this week. Reg being the father of Eric Morris who is remembered through the Eric Morris Cup, of which we are the current holders.

A different line up from last week as it is with Reserve team playing, but still on paper a strong team. Things started well, if not a little slow. But well in control for the first quarter as each team tested one another. Chances came and eventually Jimmy Hunt for Deddy found the back of the net. As it turned out it was the best move of the game by Deddy, seven or eight passes from defence leading to Nani providing a delicate assist to Jimmy who calmly stroked the ball into the back of the KS net.

And so it stayed for another half hour.  Some good chances came in the second half for Deddy upon which we did not capitalise. And then we paid for it!!. Long before the first KS goal, it was obvious one was coming. Deddy lost shape, drive and determination finding it hard to string two or three passes together. KS on the other hand were shouting, working as a team and determined to over haul the deficit.  And in the 75th minute, bang they equalised .

With tails firmly in the up position, KS pressed on and their second was soon achieved. Try as they might, Deddy could'nt lift themselves even after the introduction of subs, Roan and Josh.

To be fair, KS deserved the result.  There was some really good play from Deddy at times, but not consitent enough to deliver.  Matty got his wish to play and to be honest, putting it all into perspective, we just lost a game of football!!

RIP Steve.

FP Man of the match - Charlie McKay, an up and coming star from the U16's of last year. A solid performance in the back four.

Team: Toddy, Jack Cummings, Barney Alton, Gaz Smith, Charlie McKay, Joe Davies, Jimmy Hunt (1), Jordan Gamage, Nani, Luca Catania, Matty Hatt, Subs Roan Waddelow, Josh Woodall, Alex Radini

BDLJ League

Sinclair v Deddy Reserves

Its a funny old game. One minute it clicks like clockwork the next its as if you have never played the game before!!  That was this game. First 15 minutes we were all over Sinclair, dazzling them with movement and pace. Then, not sure what happened...other than we stopped playing!!! We lost shape, people went walkabout, we had too many touches and ended up losing the ball all the time. First half we were five nil down.  Second half they added just one. Thats after we tweaked things and started to get organised.

We need to learn, we are a young team with loads of potential. But basics, tackle hard, keep shape and let the ball work for us and we could be on to something good!

JB man of match - Pat Haynes, never stopped running!!!

Team: Toddy (Use yer hands mate!), Charlie McKay, Gaz Smith, Roan Waddellow,Charlie Bonner, Joe Davies, Jimmy Hunt,Pat Haynes, Nani, Jordan Gamage, Josh Kaye, ...Subs, Craig Charles, Matty Hatt, Alex Radini.

Deddy Ressies 0 - 7 Finmere

Bit of a mare!!!  Another back four, with Shaggy making his first appearance this season. Charlie Bonner played alongside Shaggy and impressed from KO.  Aaron valiantly stepped into Toddy's shoes and took the goalie position.  First half wasnt too bad, though Deddy struggled to turn possession into decisive attack.  Thats where Finmere prospered, playing pretty poorly themselves but getting the goals that counted.

Ed Pigott on his debut settled in well.  Josh Woodall on his first full start provided great running on the flanks opposite Josh Kaye.

Some positives have to be taken, one week we will have a consistent team??!!!

Such was Charlies performance in defence that he was awarded player of the match. Well done Charlie, its been coming.

Team: Aaron Bliss, Barney Alton, Jack Davies, Shaggy, Charlie Bonner, Joe Davies, Ed Pigott, Josh Kaye,Josh Woodall, Matty Hatt, Nani, Subs:  Greg Polonski, Alex Radini,

George Wilson Cup, 1st Round

Deddy Ressies 0 - 4 Bishops Itchington Reserves

Another tough week in the soap that is the building of a new team. A change of some personel again and the Ressies went into the game with no pressure...its a cup match.  And they did well. Played the best football so far certainly for the first half.   Although 1 nil down by half time that did not reflect the play of 45 minutes.  We had created chances, kept them out and stiffled their play. The goal they scored Barny put on a plate for them when that shiny globe he has conveniently directed a defensive header straight to the feet of their striker!!!

For the early part of second half we kept knocking on their door but then in a 15 minute spelll we lost discipline, shape and confidence allowing them three easy, poorly defended goals.  When we shut up shop again, we looked good again.

Its coming. Every game we learn and as long as we do that, no problems!!!

Several good performances al over, but of note was Josh Woodall who volunteered to stand in goal.  A big ask for a young 16 year old.  He did us proud and won Rowntrees man of the match .

Team: Josh Woodall, Charlie Bonner, Charlie McKay, Barny Alton, Gaz Smith, Joe Davies, Ed Pigott, Craig Charles, Josh Kaye, Jordan Gamage, Jimmy Hunt, Greg Polonski, Alex Radini, Nathan Shaw.

Deddy Reserves 3 - 3 Langford FC

Brilliant sunny afternoon saw Deddy take to the field keen to build on the result last week.  The first twenty minutes Deddy were awesome, with 3 brilliant goals from Luca Catania.  The first came from a great assist from Ed Pigott, the second a great assist from Craig Charles and the third a thumping shot from Luca.

Langford struck back with a couple of soft goals before half time, courtesy of an own goal from Gaz Smith and slack defending from a set piece.

It got a bit worse beginning of second half when the ref awarded Langford a penalty when one of their players fell over in the penalty box.

A sign of how far this team has come since the beginning of the season though was that we didnt fold.  We kept working hard, and believing we could pinch the game. And we almost did.

Some great performances across the pitch, from back to front.  Great team spirit and determination.  It is some credit that Langford were so rattled that 7 of their players were booked!!!!

Player of the match this week was hatrick man Luca.

Team: Josh Woodall (Keeps/ Safe hands), Barny Alton (Awesome) Gaz Smith ( Ageless) Charlie McKay ( Laid back) Charlie Bonner ( Coming on a treat)   Joe Davies (Capt fantastic) , Ed Pigott ( 66 minutes this week!), Jimmy Hunt ( solid today)  Craig Charles (I've arrived!), Josh Kaye (Mr reliable), Luca Catania ( Awesome threesome!) Nathan Shaw ( I've got two here!!), Alex Radini ( Run like the wind!).

6/12/14 - Deddington Town FC Reserves and Croughton FC join the national remembrance of  www.FootballRemembers.com ..a moment in time that is now 100 years later but no less poignant ...... a real privilege ...... just post this picture on Instagram using the hashtag #FootballRemembers

Saturday 6th December 2014

Deddy Reserves 2-1 Croughton

Another brilliant Saturday afternoon, bright, sunny and cold.  Task this week to stop drawing and try to win.  Before Kick Off we held a minutes silence for former Deddy Reserve Team player Tom Rogers who sadly passed away during the week after a long illness.  We also posed for a joint team photo with Croughton as part of the FA initiative Football Remembers.

The game started brightly. For the first 25 minutes Deddy played well, passing the ball about sweetly. Craig Charles was doing a brilliant job up front pressuring the Croughton players and running his socks off. Josh Kaye and Mikey Large were running the flanks ragged too.  But in the last 15 or so minutes  Deddy lost their shape and composure and Croughton began to threaten.  Josh Woodall in goal made a couple of crucial saves to keep us in it.

We got to half time 0-0 and following a good tactical discussion the players went back on the pitch to play football again.  And boy did they play. For the full 45 minutes Deddy were superb.  The break came when Ed Piggot linked up well with Mikey Large who broke through the Croughton defence to slam the ball home.  Sadly, the old Deddy wobbles came again as Croughton reverted to route one with a high ball over to their striker who ran on to the ball and slotted in an equaliser.  Here we go everyone thought, Deddy fold again..... but no, we held our own and within ten minutes took the lead again. The goal came from a great assist form Largey who fed the ball through for Ed Pigott to pick up his first goal of the season.

The remainder of the game played out with a couple of close shaves when Croughton could have slipped in. Most noteable was an amazing clearance off the line by Charlie McKay.

So after a few weeks we have secured 2 draws and a win.  Hopefully things will carry on in a similar vein in the run up to Christmas.

The Whole Team was awarded the Haribou Player of the Match Award this week.

Team: Josh Woodall (Keeps superb), Barny Alton (still awesome!) Gaz Smith (Ageless and mince pie king) Charlie McKay ( goal line saviour) Charlie Bonner (still coming on a treat) Joe Davies (Capt fantastic even after a night on the raz) Craig Charles ( never stops running) Josh Kaye ( Mr Reliable and now kit man) Roan Waddelow ( solid) Ed Pigott ( Lasted 90 minutes!!!) Mikey Large (great visiting performance, thx Mike. ) Nathan Shaw (Still got two here) Pedro Costano (Legend!) Jordan Gamage (Car broke down!) Alex (I'm going to be sick) Radders.

Heyford Athletic Reserves 6 - 0 Deddy Reserves

God, this was like a trip back in time!! Four cheap, stupid , preventable goals in the firtst half meant we were up against it!!  We just didnt play for 45 minutes. We had a plan, play it out wide but sadly not everyone listened!  And we ball watched as the second touch for Heyford paid off!!  We know we are better than this but it took the half time talk to remind us of that!

Second half we were a different team, suddenly discovering triangles!!! They work and we do loads of them in training!!!  Although we shipped two more goals we played at a level that was equal to anything they had. Oh if only we could have played like that in the first half!!

Positives though, we responded and didnt just fold. Second half I thought we deserved something but to be honest their keeper was superb. Lewis had a great debut match and showed what he can bring to the team.  Craig Charles, despite groin probs lasted the full 90 minutes...brill.  The Gaz Smith (legend) and Charlie McK partnership worked well. Josh in goal battled hard. And then Sam, Jack, Joe etc etc worked their little socks off!! Credit team.....  Love it... I never mind going down fighting!!!

Haribou Farmer freinds award went to Lewis...

Team: Josh Woodall, Charlie Bonner, Gaz Smith, Charlie McKay, Lewis Bullard, Joe Davies, Jack Davies, Sam Rollason, Nathan Shaw, Jordan Gamage, Craig Charles, Toddy, Radini,

Deddy RESERVES 2 - 1 Kings Sutton

This was a great opportunity to build on the good work of a couple of weeks ago against Chesterton. Despite losing to them it was universally agreed that we had played the best football of the season in that game. Continue that and we were confident we could turn Kings Sutton over.   After a pre match sweep of the pitch before battle could commence, (amounting to a tray and a half of dog shite ,when will people learn!!!) the game started well for the Ressies.  Early pressure in the first ten minutes resulted in Sam Rollason rolling the ball into the opposition net after some great build up.  Kings Sutton were to be honest in disarray and unable to cope with the vigour and pressure of the Ressies.

Ressies needed to capitalise on the early onslaught but were unable to find the second goal. Instead the game beacame a bit of a stalemate as KS found their feet and began passing the ball a bit.  They also started bullying our players and their physicality resulted in ressies being frequently disposessed. (Note to manager...some of team need to man up..been playing at this level for long enough now so lets start going in hard!!)

Ressies saw the first half out without conceding which was brill.  STALEMATE. But while its one its always a prob.  So it proved.  KS scored from nothing, the goal line mud disastrous for the ressies. As the KS striker lamely got the ball, first Jimmy's studs became fixed in the mud and he fell one way (Gerrard all over again), then Toddy the last man in goal fell over, trying to launch himself to save the shot but sadly staying well stuck in the mud!!  The ball dribbled into the goal giving KS hope!!!

At this point it has to be said, the ressies stepped up a gear.  Instead of folding they came alive. A couple of subs, Ed and Josh W.  brought new legs. 20 minutes to go and we were all over KS.  Sam Rollason was superb chasing everything.   Lewis on the left non stop. The back four solid as it had really been all the game, the midfield,  Joe and Ed standing firm.    It was only a matter of time as several chances to increase their lead went begging.  Eventually Sams wayward shots found a telling pass that Craig Charles converted into the KS net from 6 yards. An awesome goal and build up. (Well done Craig)

With tails up, Ressies saw the game out despite the ref playing to 54 minutes !!!    A great result and justly deserved .

Player of the match was a toss up between Craig Charles and Lewis Bullard.  Lewis got the rub and won the tangefantstics but to be honest any one of all the players could have won them.  Well done everyone!!

Team - Toddy (Keeps) , Gaz Smith, Barny Alton, Charlie McKay, Jimmy Hunt, Joe Davies, Keith Laird, Craig Charles, Lewis Bullard, Luca Catania, Sam Rollason, Charlie Bonner, Josh Woodall, Ed Pigott,

Saturday 7th February 2015

Bodicote Firsts 4 - 2 Deddy Reserves

Nightmare game... should have done the business here easily but somehow allowed things to get away from us. First ten minutes, great pressure, great passing, great game.  An early goal for Deddy from a corner (YES A CORNER!!) saw Deddy with tails up and flying.  But Bodicote rallied and Deddy somehow allowed them to prosper.  The plan was to keep the ball out of the midfield but thats where it seemed to be all the time!!!  And sadly the Deddy midfield was just not ticking.  So much came to nothing, however you cannot fault the commitment and effort of Joe and Ed.   It was a mud bath out there and they were stuck right in there.

When we did play it wide we progressed, though it did'nt flow.   Bodicote got the equaliser then 2 more before half time.   The nail in the coffin was their fourth early in the second half.  It came from a cock up miles up field that resulted in Bodicote breaking and shooting from about 25 yards.

Deddy got a consolation in the dying minutes.

We are better than this but are struggling at the moment to show that.  Relegation looms. We need to start delivering!! Onwards and upwards!!!

Team - Toddy(Keeps), Barny, Luke Brain, Gaz Smith, Jack Davies, Joe Davies, Ed Pigott, Charlie Bonner, Lewis Bullard, Sam Rollason, Alex Radini, Dave Hayward, Shaggy

Bloxham 7 - 3 Deddy Reserves

Here we go again I hear you say...well not quite......today we turned up and played our hearts out. Believe it or not for much of the game we showed Bloxham how football should be played.....triangles, solid challenges and movement...trouble is we forgot how to defend!!  In attack we were brilliant but when our passing broke down Bloxham capitalised to deadly effect and punished us for it!

More to follow.......

Team: Josh Woodall (Keeps), Gaz Smith, Charlie McKay, Jack Cummings, Jimmy Hunt, Lewis Bullard, Craig Charles, Joe Davies, Jack Davies, Luke Barton, Alex Radini, Mark Cook, Craig Smithy,

Saturday 21st February 2015

Deddington Reserves 4 - 3 Diverse

AWESOME!!!   Last week was a nightmare, this week a dream!!!   What a response!!  Today the Reserves took on top of the league, DIVERSE.  Who would have thought how it would turn out?  The Reserves have shown loads of potential in recent weeks but have struggled to turn that potential into results. Too many soft goals, too many silly mistakes, too many stupid moments!  But that is what learning to play as a team is all about.  With such a mix of young and older players it was always going to take time.

Today, they stepped up to the mark.  Set up in a defensive shape, each player was drilled for their role.  A last minute change in defence when Gaz Smith pulled up lame complicated the plan.  Jimmy was pushed into an unfamiliar role in the centre of the back four alongside Luke Brain.

New signing Luke Barton sat in the centre alongside Joe.  Dave H started out on the right for the first time after injury and a long time out.  Roan Waddelow returned too and made a timely impact by scoring Deddys first  in the 43 rd minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty box following a corner kick.

The first goal followed some brilliant play from Deddy who took the game to Diverse. For much of the first half, Deddy were on the front foot and ran circles around a Diverse team who seemed to wonder what had hit them.  Guess it was the fact that Diverse had probably read the previous results and thought this would be a stroll in the park.

Things began to unwind for Deddy when against the run of play, early in the second half Diverse pulled level.  Here we go again everyone thought, let one in and Deddy will fold.  Not this time!!!  Deddy repsonded within two minutes with a great move from centre out to the right, where the ball found Dave rampaging towards the Diverse goal. He still had work to do but calmly and efficiently shot passed the Diverse keeper  to find the back of the Diverse net.   The Diverse Keeper was not having a good game but Dave's shot would have beaten even the best!!!

Diverse seemed to lose interest and went missing while Deddy grew in confidence and strength.  Two more goals followed scored by Lewis Bullard. Lewis, just seventeen had a great game and was constantly knocking at the door. His reward was a couple of special goals that in truth have been coming now for several games.   The biggest problem Deddy faced was over confidence, and just occasionally we lost our shape and discipline as we started to believe we could all score.

We paid for that when in the last fifteen minutes Diverse came back at us. The first came form loose possession in our half when we were in control. We effectively just gave the ball back to them for them to run at us and bang, back of the net 4-2.

A corner a few minutes later was the same. We had the ball and gave it back cheaply. The ensueing corner found the back of the nett 4-3!!!  (Managers note - Play SMART!!!  We must learn to PLAY SMART!!)

A twitchy last 10 minutes followed that the ref extended by a further five minutes!!!  In other games we would have folded.  But this time we had such desire, such fight and determination that we made it.

What a result!!  But to be honest its only going to be a good result if we go on from this and deliver in the coming games to keep clear of relegation.

But thats for another day...lets just enjoy the moment.......we have been threatening something like this for some time...the task now is push on!!!!!!

Well done team, so proud of you.

Oh, and for those doubters out there,(Shame on You) ,  have a look at the team below...it was a RESERVE TEAM, not a subsidised team of first team players because their game was off.  IN FACT, the Club showed its true colours today...the first team en mass turned up to support and shouted loud and hard from the touchline!!!  OK yes, a 12th man, but it was the Reserves what did it!!!!

Team - Toddy, Gaz Smith, Barny Alton, Mark Cook, Jimmy Hunt, Joe Davies, Luke Barton (little), Dave Hayward, Lewis Bullard, Luca Catania, Sam Rollason, Jordan Kaye, Roan Waddelow, Keith Laird, Luke Brain

Man of the Match - Lewis Bullard.

Dear oh dear...here we go again. So much expectation, so much belief!! After last week we had a chance???? We went into this game with a plan.  Keep our shape, get in their faces, get possession and catch them on the break.  We did that pretty well in the early stages but then began to lose our momentum.

Ultimately today it was our defence that let us down.  When should we ever be running towards our goal?

Five soft goals, REALLY, five howlers!!!!!!

Plenty of positives going forward, although our 4.1.4.1 shape restricted our end result. Should have gone 4.4.2 perhaps but if the defence was leaking how could we?

Learned a lot today. Sinclair were loads better than Diverse last week. Played as a team and got the result they deserved.

Meanwhile, not all bad, we learned a lot too which is what this season is all about. Will surprise a few next season I promise!!!

Deddy Reserve1-3 Bloxham

OK lets keep this civil.  We were pretty bad first half, got better second half!! This was relegation as it bad as it gets. Two teams about as good as each other slugging it out. Difference was Deddy had youth on its side. Bloxham had experience and the long ball!!  Big learning curve.

And that is what this season has been all about, learning!!  We have run out of time. Just a couple of games against two top sides means Deddy have a mountain to climb to stay up, but never say never!!!

First half today we were awful. Perhaps the pressure got to us, perhaps we just didn't turn up, don't know.  We struggled with tackles, we struggled with shape..we struggled with tempo and wanting the ball.

Joe and Roan tried to provide leadership but apart from them we were too quiet.

The half time talk saw Robin have an unusual blow out.  God did he lose it!  In an endeavour to inspire the team he laid into them and bared the the truth...were playing crap!!!

Second half we turned it around.  We started playing as a team. Sam was awesome up front, he challenged everytthing , chased everything and worked his little socks off!! Jimmy alongside Luke Brain in defence was a revelation. Luca at right back got stronger as the game went on.  Luke Barton, Lewis Bullard and Dave Hayward  started clicking...then the defining moment.....we went ahead with a penalty.(Great penaly Luca, never in doubt) ..and we then faced our most vulnerable moment....Within  a minute of going ahead we gave away a corner?

Or was it, replays suggest it should have been a thrown in.

But the corner played proved decisive, it went in!!

1-1.....then Bloxham turned the screw and deddy were up against it.  Bloxham went for the long ball and undid a deddy defence pushing forward for a result.

Oh dear it was all over so quickly...

Deddy have some tremendous potential and that was always the philosophy...next season we will be awesome whatever league we are in!!

HANG ON IN THERE GENTS , it will not always be like this.

TOP MARKS JOE FOR THE END OF SEASONS BEERS ...A SMASHING TOUCH!!

Mentioned in despatches.....Sam and Jimmy...

Ressies we are Deddy till we die gents......and life goes on!!!  Enjoy your football !!
